Sixth day...

Received a tour of the Atlanta Union Mission Downtown Shelter (Homeless shelter where three meals, showers, laundry, emergency clothes, and work training are provided; transitional housing and WorkNet services), Life Center (cafeteria, classrooms), and Carpenter House (Recovery program, transitional housing, classrooms, dorms) and drove by My Sister's House (women and children's shelter). Also participated in the Saturday activity hosted by The Foundation for Hospital Art. Every Saturday from 9a-11p you can help paint (paint-by-color) canvasses that are donated to hospitals across the country and the world. Each canvass is part of a six canvass painting. Jazz music is played (CD) and you can talk to the men who are part of the Residential Recovery program. It was very therapeutic and I didn't want to stop painting. The guys in the Recovery program come from all walks of life and it is interesting to speak with them. Most of them are there voluntarily, some are mandated under patrol to be there.
